Firm founder, Bassam Mustafa, opened BSM Accounting after beginning his education as a Finance major and later being exposed to investment and financial tools. After seeing the importance of preventing financial issues and properly organizing business’ books, he decided to go back to college and earn a second major in Accounting, while working alongside small business owners and individuals in his community. Since then, Bassam has been dedicated to providing comprehensive services for small business owners and individual clients.
Bassam Mustafa is a New Jersey Enrolled Agent and business consultant who graduated from Montclair State University with a BS in Business Administration and a concentration in Accounting and Finance. During his professional career, Bassam spent time working for well-known financial institutions, including Merrill Lynch and Deliotte & Touché, as well as small businesses.
After earning his double major in Finance, Bassam pursued a career as a public auditor and dedicated his time working alongside Senior Vice Presidents of Financial Advisors, Certified Public Accountants, and Chief Financial Officers of various domestic and foreign corporations. After dedicating over seven years to the corporate world, Bassam decided to take his experience in business and understanding of audits and translate those into providing valuable services to small and medium businesses, such as bookkeeping, payroll, federal and state tax compliance, IRS representation, and business consulting. Within his first year of operations, Bassam pursued an Enrolled Agent license, in which the IRS recognizes him as a tax expert and allows him to represent his clients in front of the IRS and tax court in all 50 states.
Bassam’s areas of professional expertise include tax regulations, bookkeeping, cash flow management, small business operations, financial statement audits, accounting system set-up, budgeting, invoicing, financial analysis, and review of internal controls and assets. With a diverse background in small business management , global wealth management, and public audit, Bassam has gained in-depth and hands-on experience with a wide range of financial and business tasks, such GAAP, financial reporting, and sales forecasting. Bassam also has experience working with a variety of industries and niches, including manufacturing, non-profits, and automotive.
Bassam combines his knowledge of accounting, training ability, and finance to consult on businesses’ books, potential tax savings, tax liabilities, and start-up entities.
Luis Ortuno decided to pursue a career in Accounting after being exposed to it at Valley National Bank. As a college student, Luis was working at Valley National Bank and realized the importance of proper bookkeeping and tax filings. He saw that banks would always ask for financial statements and tax returns when clients wanted to apply for a mortgage. Luis also noticed that businesses should always have a good accountant to keep track of business expenses. He saw that whenever a client needed a loan most of them could not get anything approved because they didn’t have proper financial records. After seeing this through his own experiences he decided to pursue a career in Accounting to help the people in his community.
Luis Ortuno grew up in Paterson, NJ and attended H.A.R.P (Health and Related Professions) Academy high school. During that time Luis was enrolled in honor classes for all four years and took a few college credit courses. He graduated as one of the top students and attended Passaic County Community College.
Throughout his time in college he was able to excel in all his accounting courses. Before graduating he took a QuickBooks course and had hands on experience with federal taxation. He was able to gain all the knowledge and experience from a well-known and respected Professor, Edwin Pagan, who taught him everything he needed to know. Luis graduated with honors and obtained his degree in Accounting.
Luis was a Sales Associate and a Supervisor for three years at Valley National Bank. He helped clients open different accounts such as checking, saving, money markets, and IRA’s. Luis also helped his clients apply for mortgages, personal, and home equity loans. His focus was working with business clients to help them open their account for their new business. As well as helping existing clients obtain line of credits and commercial loans.
During his last semester in college Luis was given the privilege to intern at BSM Accounting Services while still working at Valley National Bank. During this period, he gained real life experience and had the opportunity to apply everything he learned in college. He learned how to prepare federal and state payroll forms and assisted clients with their tax preparations. Eventually, he learned how to prepare and file sales tax reports and maintain client’s bookkeeping. Once his internship was complete he was offered a full-time position as a Staff Accountant/ Tax Preparer at BSM Accounting Services and left Valley National Bank to pursue his career.
Wafa Hamad, is an Immigrations Specialist and Tax Preparer in New Jersey. Wafa joined BSM Accounting Services in 2015 and has helped many clients with their immigration and tax needs. Due to her years of experience in the accounting field, she is considered a payroll and bookkeeping expert. Wafa has demonstrated her knowledge to her clients when it comes to her skills in immigrations and income tax form preparation. She also prepares translations and is currently a notary public.
Wafa graduated from Dover Business College (also known as Berkeley College) in 2008. She has earned a degree in Business Administration and decided to specialize in Accounting. At the same time Wafa earned a paralegal certificate which certifies she has experience and knowledge with immigration forms.
Throughout the years Wafa has shown her knowledge in Accounting. She has 10 years of extensive experience in payroll and bookkeeping. Since 2015 Wafa has been preparing tax returns with BSM Accounting Services. She’s also fluent in Arabic and has been preparing translations for over 10 years.
Wafa continues to help the resident in New Jersey with Immigration form preparation. With many years of experience, she has made immigration form preparation as easy as possible.
Coming from a family of accountants, Hanif Golaub realized the importance of accurate accounting at a very young age. Working in his home country of Jamaica, he always saw the significance of keeping precise financial records as improper accounting can lead to a plethora of issues and problems. After moving to the U.S., he obtained his degree in Business Administration and was granted the opportunity to be part of the bookkeeping team BSM Accounting Services.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Hanif moved to Jamaica after completing elementary school. He graduated high school there with distinctions (high honors) in Accounting and Mathematics. He immediately began work as a cashier until he advanced to the position of Administrative Assistant. He then decided to continue his education in the U.S. and moved back to New Jersey.
Here, he attended Passaic County Community College where he obtained his Degree in Business Administration. Having excelled in accounting courses, he decided to pursue a career and after varies internships, he was awarded as a bookkeeper position at BSM Accounting Services.
Hanif began working as a cashier at Mr. Tyre Jamaica Ltd. As he progressed, he was promoted to sales and marketing supervisor and eventually, he advanced to the position of Administrative Assistant where he also served as the assistant accountant. In this position, he was responsible for bookkeeping, bank reconciliation and preparing reports such as Payroll, Inventory, Sales and Tax. Having developed an inclination towards accounting he decided to move back to the New Jersey to pursue that career. While attaining his degree, he also became proficient with QuickBooks.
Now serving as a bookkeeper at BSM Accounting Services, Hanif is utilizing his experience and education to pursue his career in Accounting.
Stefanny Rios is the office manager at BSM Accounting Services. She has been in the customer service field for many years. Being from the Clifton area, she is very familiar with the community and has a passion in helping others. Working as an office manager at BSM Accounting Services, has given her the opportunity to learn about the accounting Industry and enhance her technical skills.
Stefanny graduated from Clifton High School and is continuing her education at William Paterson University. Stefanny is part of the Student Government Association at William Paterson University which gives her the opportunity to voice herself and communicate with many people. She enjoys being part of a team and working together to make a business thrive.
Having many years of customer service and front desk management, Stefanny has learned how to communicate with people from different backgrounds. She is fluent in Spanish and has a welcoming personality. She enjoys socializing and being able to have a conversation with all her clients.
